Compass Center mourns the death of Hurdle Mills, NC resident Anne Kirkpatrick

The media has recently reported on the death of a local woman that the Orange County Sheriff’s office is currently investigating as a homicide.  Compass Center staff and volunteers are deeply saddened by the death of Anne Kirkpatrick at her home in Hurdle Mills, NC. News reports have shared that she had recently filed two domestic violence protection orders. Unfortunately, the need for a protective order is not uncommon in our community; last year Compass Center assisted 223 clients with obtaining a protective order, and worked with 184 clients who were pursuing criminal charges against their abuser in order to secure the client’s long-term safety. Protective orders can be an important tool to attaining safety, but unfortunately they are not a fail-safe mechanism for ending abuse and harassment. If you or someone you know is concerned that they may be experiencing abuse from an intimate partner, we encourage you to call Compass Center’s 24-hour domestic violence hotline at 919-929-7122.
